The Macclesfield branch of this dealership have just tried to charge me £1300 to change a wheel bearing. The original problem was an ABS warning light coming on immediately followed by the gearbox being unable to select a gear. They spent 10 hours with their diagnostic machine to find the fault at £85 per hour plus VAT. I had only agreed to 1 hours diagnostic. When I complained that it shouldn't have taken 10 hours I was told that there wasn't a technician on the planet that would have seen the symptoms and diagnostic print out and attributed it to a faulty wheel bearing. When I put the symptoms into Google I found that Auto Express had had exactly the same happen to their test car in 2005. My diagnosis took 5 minutes surfing. If Smart were aware of the problem in 2005 shouldn't they have communicated it to their dealers so that they did not have to charge their customers for wasted time ?
