Comments:

I had a really bad experience with Haynes. I bought a 3 year old Focus which all seemed fine, took it for test drive etc. and paid the £6000 asking price. On collection the next day, after driving at night there was a problem - For some reason the windscreen heater (fine wires in glass) caused the light from oncoming vehicles to glare. As this was really annoying, I took it back to Haynes the next morning.

I politely explained, that while this may or may not be a fault, maybe a characteristic as they put it, I would like to change the car. I explained that I did not want a refund, but that I would pay the extra and upgrade to something else, and that I would also be prepared to pay a nominal sum towards the extra paperwork involved of swapping the vehicle.

They very bluntly explained that it was now my car, and my problem and were in no way interested in helping out, even though the problem could not have been discovered on a test drive during daylight.

After much insisting, they offered to buy the car back, but at only £3200, as they said they would need cover the cost of the mark up and checks needed to re-sell it. This despite the fact that I only had the car 24 hours, and had only done around 40 miles in it !

I really felt that this approach was unproffessional and asked to see a manager. At which point other sales staff joined in and informed me they had offered to buy the car back (at almost half the cost) and that was that !. Obviously I was not happy with this, and still insisted to see a manager, they then said no one was available and I should leave the premises. I refused, and said I would leave when I see manager. The sales staff became threatening and told me to leave. It actually became quite frightening, and not something anyone should have to be subjected to.

So after some hours of discussion, and being threatened and getting nowhere, I gave up.

I sold the car privately in the end!

It would be good to hear from other dissatisfied customers of Haynes of Maidstone ! :(
