I would like to share with you a bad experience I have had, with Arnold Clark, and it is still not resolved - but I have composed my letter of dissatisfaction.
My father was 80 in 2008 and in Augus of that year went to arnold clarks in dundee where they sold him a 2005 alfa - and talked him into a two year auto care warrenty for £385 & VAT. The car was put through MOT before sale by them. Mileage was 15293 at the time. Mileage to date - is 21000 - so in the 3 years 6 months he had it, he had only ran just over 6000 miles. During that time, it failed all MOT's - for a catalogue of 'mechanical faults' - all fully serviced by Arnold clark - and all ' not covered under warrenty'
My father wrote to Arnold clarks complaints department in February 2010 when he was hit with another huge bill. Poor response. My father passed away in November 2011 and I inhereted this car. I went to start it in the December and it didnt start. It came up imobilisor failure. I assumed it was flat battery and got it towed to an alfa romeo specialist in Dundee, who, despite trying, could not get it to start - Diagnostic report came up gobblygook - they put it to Western garage in perth ( alfa specialist) who changed battery - to no avail, ran various checks on advice of alfa - and nobody could fathom what was wrong. They suggested it was th EPC unit, and replaced it at a cost of £1226.00 - to date - this car has cost in exess of £3000 in repairs.......and has travelled 6000 miles - that equates to 50p in repair costs for every mile travelled....I discovered all the invoices for this car whilst clearing out my fathers effects and am horrified....my father was clearly to embarrassed to tell me whilst he was alivbe as he knows I would have marched down to Arnold clark and accused them of ripping of an old man! As it stands - I did that anyway - and got absolutely nowhere - they didnt want to know....I have demanded they furnish me with copies of all invoices they have charged my late father and I am pursuing directly with Alfa romeo the EPU - Arnold clarks attitude was - well that can happen anytime - and sometimes it is just as bad doing low mileage as high......NOT GOOD ENOUGH ANSWER SORRY!!!! I will post update as and when I get one. Im so bloody angry - anyone want to buy a used car - fully serviced by Arnold Clark - low mileage with £3000 repairs done!!!!!!!
for what ever reason i cant find the motor store in east kilbride when rating this dealer. but be assured its an eye opener for anyone who is thinking of buying a car from arnold clark. sit back and prepare yourself for the worst ride of your life.i bought a 05 plate peugeot 206 hdi diesel from them for 4.500 pounds 6 months ago.i was told that if the car has less than 6 months mot then they would put a years ticket on it prior to me buying it . well its clear that i didnt qualify for it because there was still 6 months mot left on the car. so i take the car for an mot and i am confident it will pass with flying colors. guess what it failed on the following/ front pads and discs.front struts and coil springs. rear shockers corroded and stiff / front brake hose on both offside and nearside corroded in need of immediate attention.rear brake pipes corroded and need replaced.hand brake requires attention ie adjusted offside front tyre is of legal requirement but needs replaced prior to mot. thats just part of what i have listed on the mot failure . so please can someone tell me if they have had the same problem if so then please email me at joemilloy@btinternet.com / my final thought is avoid arnold clark when purchasing a new car as for me . im waiting on a massive bill to repair my car avoid these cowboys like the plague once bitten twice shy. watchdog is closer than you think
