Yep- we are finding the same thing. They look good until you come to get them to do the change over- then it all goes pear shaped. The "easy" telephone elec and gas readings seem to go astray, then you get more letters saying "time for a reading" then nothing happens.Doesn't look good so far - hope it gets better.

I've been with EDF twice now. The first time they were brilliant in every way. If anything was ever wrong their customer services sorted it out quickly, cheerfully and with the minimum of fuss. The second time was completely different though. I had no problems with the electricity transfer, but the gas transfer took a very long time and was riddled with problems. Firstly they used a meter reading which was before the reading used by my previous supplier, meaning that I was double charged for some units, then they put me on non direct debit rates despite the fact that my contract was for monthly direct debit. It was just because for whatever reason they had failed to set up the direct debit on my gas account.

I had to contact them many times over these issues, and I was really shocked by their initial attitude. Despite the fact that they are supposed to handle fully the smooth running of the transfer they made out that it was my fault that I'd been double charged the units and I'd have to take it up with my previous supplier. They told me it was just tough that I'd been overcharged and they weren't willing to do anything because as far as they were concerned they'd done everything right. I contacted my previous supplier and also the Independent Gas Transporter (IGT), which really EDF should have done on my behalf, and they confirmed that in fact EDF had made the mistake. Eventually EDF acknowledged this and corrected my bill, but there was no apology or compensation. With the other issue, the non direct debit rates, they keep saying they will calculate a refund of the overpayment but it never appears and I'll probably have to go to the small claims court to get it.

So, you may get a good deal, but prepare yourself for some possible grief with the gas transfer.
