I have insured my motorbike through Bennetts because their quote was cheaper than my previous insurer, although not by much.
Anyway, after setting up my direct debit with them, they took £10 more than expected on the first payment; I rang them to understand why I was overcharged, and they justified the extra charge with the reason that I did not return to them the "loan agreement form" they posted to me. That was a 10 page kind of brochure that I did receive but I did not pay much attention to (I just thought it was some sort of written agreement to keep and nothing else). Because I bought the insurance online there was no mention of the above extra charge.
Thus, so far, I have already being charged almost £15 more than expected (calling their 0844 number also costs money, of course).
And after just two months with Bennetts I am already looking around for my next insurer.
These are part of BISL Ltd.. In August '09 I insured my bike with them as they gave the best quote for me with 1 years NCB. When I got the renewal notice in August '10, they had added £50 to my excess without any consultation. I was also entitled to a 2nd years NCB, so the premium required should have been less than the first year, but it had gone UP from £77.58 to £96.92?!
I did a search and obtained a quote of £75.87 from Swinton which I accepted. As a coutesy I telephoned Bennetts freephone number given (I never ring greedy 087/084 numbers), and told them I would not be renewing with them and why.
Two weeks later I received a second renewal reminder explaining that my insurance was due to expire and the legalities involved in riding without insurance.
The girl I had spoken to on the phone had obviously not informed her computer.
So this time I wrote a letter explaining why I did not wish to renew with them and indicating that it appeared I had done the right thing due to their lack of efficiency.
Two weeks after that I received a THIRD renewal reminder??!!
They have just ignored me completely. There's been no actual harm done this time, but can you imagine trying to make a claim if something went wrong? I definitely wont be using them ever again or any of BISLs other broker names.
