I took my car here for an MOT and was told the car had failed its MOT for two reasons:
1 Because the windscreen wipers did not clear the screen
2 Due to emissions.
The employee told me the car needed some fuel additive to pass the MOT and a new pair of front wipers. I agreed to have the work done, £20 for the additive, £25 for the wipers.
On collecting my car I asked for the emissions report that detailed why my car had failed. I was told that the emissions report had been "thrown away because I had asked for the work to be carried out"
On inspecting the VT30, refusal certificate, the reasons for the car failing were cited as: Front windscreen wipers [8.2.2] and Exhaust tailpipe not capable of allowing the emission probe to be inserted [7.3.D.1]. (My car has an unmodified exhaust pipe)
So the emissions test had never been carried out. Yet I was told I needed fuel additive to pass the MOT and Kwik-Fit charged me £20 for it.
I am now aware that the emissions reports must be kept for at least 3 months, yet I was told the failed emissions test report didn't exist because the second test had overwritten the first!
I was made to pay for the MOT and remdial work before the employee let me see the MOT refusal certificate and pass certificate.
I believe that I never needed the £20 additive and that, if tested correctly, the car would have passed its MOT. I don't even think it needed new wipers as they seemed to be working OK to me.
