we were cold called and were suspicious that a Rugby company would do local publications in the South East.
As I could not find them on google, I requested to see a back issue, which they could not provide. I was given their website, which had "forbidden access". when looking up the registrant, it was registered in a UK individual name.
Once we dug a bit deeper, the phone calls stopped. Thankfully we never passed over any monies, so got out of it "just in time".
We were cold called by a very plausible man, who said all the right, reassuring things, i/c guaranteed to email us draft advert within 4 hours, copy of newspaper & VAT invoice within 5 days, 7 editions, print run of over 150 000, inserted in various named local newspapers in the SE England.
To date we have no evidence that they have complied with any of these conditions.
As soon as an email of the draft advert was not received within 4 hours, and their phone not answered, and it appeared from a web search site that the company had 1 employee & the office was shared by numerous other companies, (accomodation address?) I feared we'd beem blagged.
The week or so after the initial phone call, we had numerous other calls for advertising, some openly associating with SE Press.
Needless to say, once bitten ....!
