I am very pleased to tell you that my complaint with this developer is fully resolved and that they have restored my faith in their business.
I now feel that Higgins do care about the neighbours of their developments.
Higgins Homes, part of Higgins Group plc recently gained planning permission to build 7 homes close to my home, in Writtle Essex. The site formed a previous Car Dealership.
They started to build and after around 6 months, I realised exactly how much the new build homes would impact on my property. They have built the homes, as far as I know to within the Planning Permissions, but when I realised the true impact, e.g. 2 of the 7 homes completely overlook by garden and into my bedrooms, I was shocked.
As a reputable builder I asked them to consider making a goodwill gesture payment, towards the cost of me planting 6 or 7 established laurel trees, which would regain my lost privacy and restore my garden to that of a private garden.
They considered my request and flatly denied it, and would not make any gesture towards it.
The purpose of this posting is to warn others, if Higgins Homes or the Higgins Group apply for planning permission close to your home, appeal against it, and request specific measures are made part of the permission if they breach your privacy.
As an established and what I thought was a reputable builder, I am surprised that they have turned down such a reasonable request which would only have cost them around £1,000, a small price to pay when you consider it’s part of a multi million £ scheme and has probably knocked around £10,000 off the price of my property as it is now overlooked.
Higgins Homes – Shame on you. P.S. If you are reading this now Higgins, my offer remains should you change your mind, and I would be happy to publish a retraction to this statement if you do the right thing.
