In late 2007, I had been out of work for several months, and my husband and I were living pretty much hand-to-mouth. We got a call from Zenith saying that they would pay us £3500 for a testimonial about the windows that had been installed in our home nine years previously.

Thinking that we had been thrown a bit of a lifeline that would have carried us through a few more months of financial hardship, we agreed to let their representatives visit us to do the necessary paperwork.

They arrrived about a week later, got us to write our testimonial and sign it. There was no guaranteed money in it, but they said if they used our entry, we'd get the money.

We thought that would be the end of it. But no, it was then that they launched into their sales pitch. They wanted to replace our existing front vestibule with a new one, at a cost of (wait for it) a little over £3000.

We tried everything to express our lack of interest in getting the work done. We explained our financial situation - in response, they suggested we take out a loan or ask our relatives for money to do the work! We said we wanted to eventually make our house look more like the original Victorian terrace house in front - they attempted to make us feel foolish for wanting to do this.

Finally, when they realised they weren't going to make a sale, they became so aggressive that we were actually somewhat afraid. They then said that if we didn't accept their offer of a new front porch, the deal was off. We said fine. They left. I was nearly in tears when they finally went out the door.

Just after they left, we realised that they'd taken our signed testimonial with them. So on the following Monday, I rang their head office and not only complained about the conduct of their salespeople, but stated categorically that if we discovered at any time in the future that our testimonial had been used, we would take them to court for payment in full of the promised original amount. I also told her that as a result of Zenith's sharp practice, we would certainly not be considering them for any future work we might want done.

I sort of felt for the woman on the phone - she seemed quite sheepish and apologetic. But nothing could make up for the disrespectful and uncaring bullying we received at the hands of their sales reps.

Where do I start?? An over priced porch which we agreed to after the salesman overstayed his welcome by several hours, workmen who arrived later than we were told on a dark November evening and erected the roof over led flashing which caused water leakage into the porch,Ivy which grew into the porch through gaps and following a new roof after the led flashing fiasco more leaking today....over 7 years later and still problems and they still ring to ask my opinion on their products!!!!!!! ha ha ha

I had recently had a Zenith cold caller asking if I would like a quote for any of their products. I stupidly agreed to get a quote for a roller garage door. Being aware of the time and procedure used by these sales people I was very firm with the sales rep. when he was spending what seemed like hours filling out a form to rate my house as a show home to the point where I asked him to stop doing the form and get on with estimate. The estimate was £4.300 for a 7ft x 7ft door my only previous quote was £1200. I could do a DIY one for £700.
I told him not to bother working out the discount as the price was still going to be too high. He then phoned his boss to tell him he was leaving and the boss asked to speak to me which I refused to do. Just after he had left his boss rang to complain that I had not let his rep. do a "professional presentation" and and then hung up on me before I could explain that I all I wanted was a price not a 2 hour lecture. This is definitely be the last time a sales person will get through my front door. The last time I did have double glazing rep. in the house I had to take dump his samples out in the street to get him to leave.
