same problems with reid too, paid £2k for a suite in feb 2011 delivered damaged in may 2011, potos sent to them within 2 days, their "technicians" reported a manufacture fault and the suite was replaced. another 14 weeks later the replacement arrived, damaged again and looked 2nd hand, same damage again photos sent within 2 days, "technicians" came out and reported wear and tear, not bad as it was delivered this way, reids now saying it is caused by us using fake tan or lotion. again these photos were sent to them within 2 days, so if it's wear and tear, who was using it before us? if it's fake tan or lotion, who's? check here and add as friend http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003265979135 if link does not work search for dontbuyfromreidsfurniture and add as friend have a look at the photo's and comment

We also bought a suite in March 2011. A couple, no kids, no animals. Paid £2300. Contacted Reids in June as leather cracking and colour a mess on one settee. They sent inspector who said wrong leather used for seat. Reids then said no fault and denied "insp" report. Also contacted T Standards and "Judge" had independant insp done - not accepted by Reids. Insurance useless as Reids must accept a fault . Customer service manager won't take a call - or return letters. Ay a loss on what to do next. Disgusted by this company. Surely as there are SO MANY people feeling same we could do something collectively ? Mary

My husband and I purchased a leather suite (3, 2 & footstool) from Reid Furniture, Glasgow which was delivered on the 9th December 2009 as a cost of just under £2,000.00.

In March of 2010 we noticed faults developing in the 3 seater sofa and contacted them to complain.

They sent one of their ‘Furniture Experts’ on two separate occasions to my home and both said that the furniture was wearing as per ‘Industry Standards’ and were not prepared to do anything about this.

I contacted my local Trading Standards Office who sent out one of their ‘Experts’ at a cost to me of £96.45.

He also said that some of the ‘faults’ were as per Industry Standards but that the fault on the arm rest was NOT and upheld our complaint!

The problem is that Reid’s want to ‘repair’ this sealed and stitched arm in my home and will not consider that the whole 3 seater sofa is badly manufactured not just the arm and will not offer a replacement or a refund only a repair which we are NOT HAPPY ABOUT!

We have asked them how they intend to repair this and they have offered us £150.00 to accept the sofa as it is and GO AWAY basically!!!!

We are not complaining for the sake of it and don’t want the continual hassel of this and feel that they are treating us very unfairly as we have a genuine complaint. Also if this is ‘Industry Standard’ quality then quite simply we are horrified!!!!!

I took an offer of buying the suite over three years and still have another two years to go with paying for this sofa, part of which is deteriorating in front of our eyes and is not wearing at the same rate as the 2 seater sofa!!!

The leather is TOO SOFT and should never have been sold for this purpose........note the one on display in the shop is a tougher leather than this and we thought we were getting the same type!

I dread to think what this will look like over the next year/two years………………and we are paying for this!!!

DON'T buy anything from them including their Insurance Cover as it is supposed to cover 'every eventuality!' but just you try claiming on this!!!

We now know that we are not the only people experiencing this as this website clearly shows!!!

Anybody offer any advice on this as I am considering contacting the newspapers with this as I would like other people to be warned!!!!

In conclusion....their current adverts are saying that if you want to buy PERFECT furniture then buy from them.............believe me DON'T!!!!

I will make this short, I ordered a suit of furniture in Sep 09 and it was delivered Dec 09 and cost £2437.00 by Oct 10 the chair started to have pink spots and the leather was peeling away. Reid sent out a technician who was in and out in 5 minutes and sent me a letter back saying it was due to general usage. I then contacted Trading Standards who organised an Independant Report. This came back saying it wasn't a manufacturing fault and there was nothing more I could do. My advice to you all as well as all my family and friends IS STAY WELL AWAY!!I am now left out of pocket not only for faulty goods (which is not due to general usage but poor quality of leather), an Independent Report which will cost around £100 and an extended guarantee which cost over £300 and is no use. DO NOT BE THERE NEXT VICTIM!! STAY AWAY!!

Bought a three piece ssuite from Reid furniture Glasgow for £2000 . 10 months down the line and the arms of the chair have pink spots where the coating is breaking up. A technician called, he had difficulty in taking in-focus pictures as he did not understand the focussing system on his camera and left without using a magnifying glass to examine the damaged areas. I then received a letter saying that it was "due to general usage"
I rejected that and was told to contact Trading Standards. I have done this and am waiting for an independent report.
This company used to manufacture furniture in their Hillington, Glasgow factory but have abandoned that and now "outsource" furniture.
I would not recommend this company, very goods sales men, nice showroom but very poor customer service.

Ordered a 2 and 4 seater suites, waited 16 weeks for delivery.Delivered without fixings, different coloured legs and 3 large cushions missing. still waiting for parts for 3 weeks, Told them to uplift, on uplift dropped the suite and marked wooden room. Waiting for executive decision. May have to get lawyer involved. Do not touch them with a bargepole

Has anyone bought a red palazzo suite and actually had problems with fading, peeling or cracking of the leather?
We bought one on impulse yesterday but after reading the reviews are worried about the quality of the leather.

The JohnBoy JBoy creating all the reviews sounds like an ex employee with a grudge, maybe because he was fired for some reason (Stealing cash maybe?!) , I've bought a bed from Reids that was ex display , it was a bargain and i'm very happy with it!

I used to work for Reid Furniture until recently. They are now part of the same group as Harvey's. Owned by a South African company called Steinhoff.
They target all there sales staff on selling a minimum of 60% pointless warranty to achieve targets. We were encouraged to tell the customer what they wanted to hear.
90% of product shipped in from China. Mark up on product is outrageous. Its normal for them to buy a product in at $140 dollars and sell at £900. I have seen the mark-up.
Some of the sofa's they sell of the floor are customer returns. Where a customer returns a sofa because it is faulty. Many times we had to wash a smelly sofa down and sell it again.
If you want cheap rubbish buy from Reid. If you want good quality look elsewhere.

Purchased dining table and chair on 22/01/09 staff in storeroom very pleasant, however all went wrong from there. Promised delivery End of March and picked up, correct packaging but wrong table also badly damaged with parts missing, therefore Reid’s uplift and promised new delivery in EIGHT weeks. Telephoned middle May 09 to be told delivery end of May or beginning of June, however now told new delivery date of July. When I challenged this date they advised No record of prior conversation on computer, Why was I surprised, as they obviously don’t care about their customers and staff are extremely disinterested. Reid’s have offered full refund which I will take as don’t have any faith in the company Please avoid Reid’s at all costs as we didn't and have fallen victim like others. doesn't surprise me as they don't seem to care about their customers. Please avoid Reids at all costs as we didn't
