Comments:

I have worked for the BeasT that is known has BT for many years, and now have the favourable knowledge on how to deal with the company and how to get what you want from them.

I no longer work for the company but wanted to offer my extensive technical and commercial experience.

BT have good people, well mostly, but its the systems and procedures that let them down.

Beware of the following sales practices.

BT Sales people are targeted on selling the many BT products and services, in the SME space this is done through a chain of Local Business licence holders, these are not BT but independant privat companies who survive on the products and services BT pay commision to.

Where to start, well if your a Business wanting new lines, do not be fooled into taking products like featureline, if you need one line for calls and Broadband, then this service gives you PBX type services, but you will need to commit to long term contracts, which in the day and age are not advisable as technology develops, for example, would you commit to paying for a laptop for three years minimum? no, as by the end of year one, the technology is no longer fit for purpose, go for a one year standard contract, be clear on what you want from your communications, and read the detail, it is a known problem that BT will try and get you onto long term contracts, and worse, old technology, which in these days of the internet is not required.

There are alternatives.

If you need more than one line, then do not gt forced into taking out a PBX, the same issues are seen here, basically you are purchasing a system which is not future proofed, and if you need more features, or tweaks, then you will pay a premium.

Also, watch out for expnsive service contracts, they are added to the contract and hidden within your bill, most companies become complacent, as they think its what they need, believe me, you need a fine comb to pull these out.

Broadband services are not really dsigned for Business, by that I mean accountability, if you get a problem, then the likelyhood is that you will be reffered to an off shore call centre, who will find it difficult to understand your problem, and worse still resolve you issue.

In these days of credit crunch, dig out your bills, go through them and question what you don't understand, there will be hidden charges, for example by not paying by DD.

I run my own Hosted PBX Voip service, which outperforms the BT offerings, I should know, I was there a long time.

Customers want someone who can articulate and demonstrate what you are getting, explain the features and benefits in business terms, and also want to work with companies that understand your business.

Hosted voip performs better and is much more cost effective than standard PBX for the following reasons.

Flexibility - You can have any geographic number anywhere in the UK, for example you could have a Manchester number in Brighton, or indeed a Manchester number in Paris, so if you move, there is no issue about taking the number with you.

Cost - To set up standard PBX complete with lines, can run into the thousands, capital cost which most business can ill afford, Hosted PBX is minimal up front costs, why, because all the calls are routed to our switch, we have invested in the technology for our Customers to benefit.

Reliability - Our switch is in a secure Data Centre, with resilience built in, this is backed up with Business levels of Service, just think about this, what would you do if a power cut, flood, fire, or an earthquake do to your services, how will you be able to operate? with Hosted PBX, it doesnt matter where you are, and businesses now use this as part of there insurance if the worst was to happen.

Anyway, if you need help, advice or want to hear more how I can help your Business, please let me know.

Oh yeah, and don't get fooled into thinking BT are the only ones, there are plenty of us ex BT people who understand the BeasTs weaknesses, and hence the ability to offer better services.

Thanks for now
