I hate brighthouse!!! i tell them i can't make a payment after 5 days when it is due, only a few times I have done being a single mum it's hard. is this company 'flexible' no they have no understanding I always pay it, everytime I am a day late I get a phone call or if I check my phone they have phoned 5-8 times. the guy that deals with late payments should not be allowed to speak to people full stop, how he speaks to me is disgusting, once I told him I was at hospital due to my dad having a stroke "well I will be sending a van out to retrieve the goods" disgusting. one day my payment was late I was getting phone calls every half an hour and at 2pm they are knocking my door even though I did say I would have the money by 4, the guy knocking the door said he was going to call the police I said I had a tenner could he take that as some of the payment "no" I closed the door again he was knocking the saying he wants to know my landlord's name said I didn't know it so he decided to knock my neighbours doors, they didnt answer he then put his foot on my step so I couldn't close the door waving a screw driver in my face, managed to eventually close the door, he then started to kick my balcony fence. I was on my own and very scared I was shaking and my 2 year old was screaming. I made a complaint to head office but due to me paying late my complaint wasn't taken further. I can't wait to get my washing machine paid off as I will never ever use brighthouse again. I think they prey on people that are on benefits and on low incomes and how people are treated are disgusting. Very happy taking money off you but sending stuff back that are broke or we can't afford it they get nasty. i am keeping records of how many times they ring me and will record phone calls and record when they knock my door as I will not be subjected to being spoken to like that and made to feel scared of being in my home when they knock the door for just being 3-5 days late on payments.

Hi, I used to be a BH employee and they dont treat there staff any better than the customers. As for your goods being taken back, they must have a court order to take it back from you unles you give them your consent. They will ask you to sign a consent form when they take anything which covers them. If you do not sign the consent form and they take the item back you can claim all you money back you have paid on the item. Just tell them you are experiencing difficulties and that you are in a vulnerable position. As a vulnerable customer by law they cannot continue to harras you for payment and must not add to your vulnerability. The staff are targeted on the results they achieve but by letting them know you are vulnerable they cannot continue and cannot take anything without the relevant court order.
I hope this helps you with the situation

Hi unfortunatly i am a brighthouse customer and have been for over a year a couple of months ago i fell behind with my payments and after being spoken too like an idiot by rude members of staff and being told they can collect the goods without a court order i agreed to a re-write which meant my arrears were added to my account and will now take an extra 4 weeks to pay off...i have now fell behind again due to being off work through ill health...brighthouse are constantly ringing me(although i dont answer as i do not want to speak to any of their staff)..they have contacted my refs and im now expecting a knock at the door from them...can they remove my goods without a court order? im worried that the credit re-write has affected my rights...please help

i am an employee of brighthouse and customer and can honestly say that they do not look after their customers or staff. when items are returned from service the customer is not informed or it simply does not work still or if an item is on a collection from a customer to for brighthouse to hold onto (collect and hold) it has been put on the shop floor to be resold.
the quality of some items i have to sell are poor to say the least and sometimes hardly work currently we have to sell a tv but with no remote control (wat's the good in that?. as an employee we are abused by customers (which i cant say i blame some off the customers) and the management will hide out in the office and watch/listen on the camera then stating it's part of our job to take abuse.
i am on the verge off just walking out of the company. but whoever reads this take note it is not a glamourous company to buy items from and the osc (optional service cover) is not worth taking out as you are either without your item for god knows how long or you simply have a useless loaner that hardly works.
please feel free to comment or ask any questions and i will answer them honestly.

Hi all, I have been reading all your comments and thought I'd put mine across. I've been with BH for 14 years and have spent thousands. I've never been free from them as it's easy to get stuff. Anyway I have a few things some I have nearly paid off some new contract. I brought a washing machine from them about 6 weeks ago. I never have any of the service cover or the insurance as I have my own home insurance and a hubby that can fix most things. Anyway I went to pay my payment over the phone as I always do and she was like that's £56.00....I was like hold on it's supposed to be £52, it may only be a few pound, but after everything I have paid them and only ever had 2 late payments in the whole time of being with them, I was really angry. So she basically said I had taken the service cover out! I said No way I've never had it. She said I did and needed to come into the store and talk with the manager and then they would have it taken off.....now I was even more mad. I explained it was their mistake and the reason why I pay over the phone each week is so I don't have to come in to the store!!! So she was adamant, so I thought right I'm not paying them ever again.....I mean the amount of interest I have paid over the years would probably pay for the stuff I have now 3 times over. Anyway all I've had since is letters, knocking the door and sitting outside my house. Thing is they can sit there as long as they like, as I know they can not gain entry to my house. Don't be scared by these bullies people, as they don't have a leg to stand on. stick to your guns!
I'll keep you all posted!

Bright-house Accrington Lancashire

So I went to this place today as my disabled daughter needs new bunkbeds and we have been making massive adaption's to our property for her thus don't have any spare money at the moment. I had my identity stolen about 10 years ago and thought I had gotten all of it dealt with until today. The manager asks have you ever had account with us which I say no. He then makes out I am a lier and that I owe Hyde branch money. would not give number to customer services would not help at all and was rude and aggressive towards me. I contact Hyde branch via phone and I have to say these people at the Hyde branch was more then helpful :) and gave me all I needed over the phone and also put a complaint in for me regarding the way I was treated in Accrington.
1. do use bright house unless you really really need to
2. never use the one in Accrington
3. if you really have to use then and can get to Hyde Manchester then they are lovely and the manager knows how to treat customers :)

I recently watched 2 reps from this company banging on a neighbours door, when the door was opened they attempted to force their way in, the neighbour prevented them from doing this. One of the reps hurt his hand when the door was shut. They called the poilce and amazingly 3 police cars arrived and one other Brighthouse van, and all this for a LCD TV. The tv was recovered by Brighthouse. In watching their performance, I would never give them my custom. I went into a Brighthouse store in Burnley to have a look, and they had poor quality furniture at silly prices, the furniture was soiled, and priced at over £700, so basically this must be repossessed furniture. If you want to pay many times over for something, then Brighthouse is for you, if you want to be ripped off, then head their way, I won't.

I am a brighthouse customer at this time ,and I have been for 7 years now. The other night the phone and the internet didn't work at all ,but I still had cable ,so, I called Tech support.
I was on the phone with them for about 1 hour or so,they told me to reset the modem and shut all computers down before I do this, then after 30 minutes they say it's my computer,so I told them ,(How could it be my computer if the phone and internet don't work ,and i still have cable..?)
Then this guy said (Hold on let me try to reset the system.)
He then reset it 3 times ,I had internet for about 10 minutes ,then it didn't work at all, but, I got the phone back.
Boy , was I upset..!!!
If they have control of the system why blame it on us !
Then the next day they send someone out to fix the problem, and i ask about the internet..?
The service tech said (Sorry, I just fix the phone problems,I'll have someone here for that on teusday.)
So here i sit with the phone and the T.V.,and no internet.
Yup! you guessed it,I mad!!!
I think they need to get new techs that do it all,
or at least come over with a new modem in hand.

I think they need to lower there prices if there not that good at keeping there system running at top performance, and when they have specials like $99.95 a month for cable ,internet and phone service, they should give us a discount on that month.

I don't like this Brighthouse company at all.
I think they just want the money and thats it.
They act like they don't care about the people that have there service.

I was a brighthouse customer from november 2009I purchased a sofa when i lost my job i had to claim jobseekers and whilst waiting for benefit to start missed a paymment they soon stalked me my weekly repaymment was £10.33 and when they rang me I offered them my last £8 and they refused it and added £3 late fee, i contined paying and a few times my money would be paid late so had made brighthouse a few late payments on 1 particular day the manager was very rude 2 me so thought f this im not having that they can wait till i financially secure i was struggling to pay anyway and asked if i could reduce weekly amount and they said no and demanded i return sofa myself and my refrences all got stalked and had regular visits 1 day they came at 9pm and i caught them looking through window so went to upstairs window and threw a hairsparay can out he moan but after all he had no business looking through my window they soon left without sofa few times after they kept coming 1 time threatning to ring police and following me to shop but after 90 days they left me alone and 3 months on i havent had a letter phone call nothing i would of paid but after the bullying and harrassment i really thought no chance they dont need to be like that......... so if you can put up and not let these bullys get to you for 90 days i would certainly recoend knocking them....cheers brighthouse for my massivly reduced sofa its great maybe next time you will think twice before bullying vulnerable people :P

I am with pulling my hair out i have been dealing with brighthouse in chatham kent for the last couple of years and would not reccommend them to my worst enemy they have made my life a misery i am a single mother with three children and two of them are special needs they took my cooker on the 2nd march for the fourth time!and had to wait a week for a loaner which i refused to keep as the oven did not work!!bright far from it! got another which i had till 2nd july three hours after getting back my cooker it broke down!had to wait till 4th july for engineer who said not to use at all even the hob has it was dangerous i was supposed to get a loaner yesterday which never showed it is now the 6th july and after numerous calls i am still awaiting a loaner so for six day had to feed my children takeout and sandwiches which one i dont like and two had to borrow money to do the worst is the arragont manager who finds the situation amusing and passes the buck everywhere else i have contacted trading standards and will be making this offical and this company treats people like myself as dirt and should not get away with it

Hi i recently had a re-furbished tv from brighthouse and also a ps3. My payment day has always been a saturday but i have always paid on a friday just to keep up with payments. A few weeks ago i was unable to get to the store on the friday so was going to pay on the saturday, my due day. When i got home the friday night i had 3 arsy voice messages to say that my account was no in arrears and that i would incur a late payment fee...even though my payment wasn't due til the saturday. Anyway I have only made 8 weekly payments since receiving my items, and am refusing to pay anymore. If anyone knocks my door, i will refuse to answer, can anyone let me know of the rights they have...and if they have the rights to kick my door off, or get a locksmith to enter my home to collect the goods? Thanks. =)

Hi, I recently bought a Laptop from Brighthouse, it came boxed, when I opened the box it looked brand new, however when I checked the receipt its condition was described as used (which I still have in my possession). This may not seem like much of an issue, however without going into too much detail the laptop is now in the hands of the police, they have found evidence of criminal activity on it with which I have been charged because I own the laptop. At this moment in time the police are not aware that the laptop is "used" according to the receipt. So does anyone know what lengths brighthouse go to when making goods re-saleable?

 craftypig at 16th May 2010, 02:54AM
Hiya, My mother took out an agreement with bh only 4 weeks ago. it was for a brand new laptop. delivery within a week, The laptop turned up and i signed for it as mother was away for another week. the box was in real bad condition, upon inspection the laptop and been open and used, the charger was just screwed up. laptop had no protective wrapping . and to top it off it was regitered to bh and needed a password. i phoned the store and was given the password, i also said that this item was not new and i was told it came of shelve as display so still classed as new? i said it also as a mark on it. spoke to store manager who said he can not get the same model laptop to exchange, and offered a different one which cost slightly more a week. which was no good as it does not have the feauture on it like this 1. now they are saying we can return this one? however they are not willing to resign her a new agreement up due to her income which aint changed, so the option is to take this one back and thats it or pay for it at full price, £1163.00. payment is due today but im not taking it down i am gonna now withold payment till they resolve the matter by replacing same model or newer at same price. i am sending them a letter with regards to the sasle of goods act, item not as discribed. i used to work for a company like this as a debt collector taking back tv's, computers ect. so i hope with know what i know. as anyone had ther same problem , thanks

I'm so annoyed with these people! i have a laptop that i agreed £9 a week they didnt ask me if i wanted cover thery just put it on automatically! so i am paying £16.09 a week! im usually upto date with my payments i have been late on occassions where i have truely forgot i have children and a life sorry i dont think about running to you to pay money my laptop broke and i was annoyed at the fact they told me it would take 8 weeks to repair and while it was away i still had to pay for a laptiop that i have no use of! i used it for work so had to use it with a bleeding screen untill i recieved one for xmas. so i gave them it for repair telling me i still had to pay they didnt know when it would be how long or ought. when i went in a week later to pay they said oh its only just gone today!!!! so my laptop was sat in your store for a week? i have been working day and night and with 2 kids bad health and stress i have not been able to get there for last weeks pay and they turned up at my house! how dare you telling me to get down and pay tomorrow and the woman didnt even know that she had my laptop when i said how long will it be!! im not sure do i keep paying or do i stand my ground and get it back then end my contract? they said i couldnt end it unless i handed it back in the condition i recieved it?

I am a X manager of Brighthouse and as much as I enjoyed the rewards of working with them I always struggled with the fact that Brighthouse operate like the majority of sub prime credit operations....eg Provident : Welcome Finance : Shopacheck all companies that are one step away from being loan sharks. Our governments past and future ignore that this High St exploitation exists as it is after all an underlying economy. Brighthouse operate just within financial directives however they have cannot enforce legal action despite their threat letters as they do not carry out any formal credit check prior to offering credit. If you default on your payments expect a ton of collection letters (poor trees) and endless phone calls and house visits from their scary collectors : ). In Scotland collectors have no legal right to enter your home without consent. Also expect your 5 references to receive telephone calls.....After 90 days something magical happens....You drop off the system (written off debt)....You will never hear from Brighthouse ever again.....In defence of Brighthouse they do offer a unique solution for those in dire straits...The ones that pay their full dues in three years ? there the ones that are paying for the runners...(or skips for those in the know)..... Avoid Brighthouse , Provident , Shopacheck and the very worst Buy As You View if you can...why not consider something second hand ????....Please also remember that the refurbished goods in the store are goods that have been torn out of once loved customers homes that have missed a couple of payments..... :(

 Smiler2 at 24th Feb 2010, 08:10PM
why do they make it so impossible to cover the goods on your own contents insurance as mine dont meet their requirement which is that not only do they replace the goods but also pay off the hire agreement most ive found wont do this does anyone know a company that will cheers.

I purchased a 32in lcd samsung tv from brighthouse in 2006 for 9.50 per week over 156 weeks with no additional cover. After 2 years the inbuild freeview stopped working and to top it off 3 weeks after it was paid off it ceased to work completly(complete black screen)
After calling head office and explaining my rights, "brighthouse" seem to ignore and deem rubbish everything trading standards has told me about "the supply of goods act"
An lcd tv has an expected life of between 60000 and 80000 hours which if i had it used 24 hours per day for 3 years would be nothing like that amount.
Brighthouse will do nothing for you over the phone so after being rejected for another tv after making my final payment 2 days late i am going to send a letter to them regarding the "supply of goods act" (ie fit for purpose goods free of defects)(up to 6 years statury right claim) demanding a repair, replacement or refund. I hope all goes well and will blagg when i get a result and would love to here from people who have used this claim before

i purchesed a laptop in 2008 from brighthouse in falkirk .. my x partner also had a seporate account with them where they took a tv out .. were are no longer together and i am being harrassed for the money they owe aswell as my own. i never signed an agreement for this item and the store is saying i did ... the regional manager has copies of my signiture and it is clear that they are not min but still not willing to accept that i am not responisible for it i dont even have they tv they are talking about .. this has been going on soince 23 april 2009 and it has now got to the stage where they are coming to my property harrassing me ... i recieved a letter on the 29thof july 2009 saying that the regional manager mer gary makenzie was going to call me regarding this by the 31st of july 2009 and if he didnt i was to call there customer care line i done this as he did not call and yet again no satisfaction ... i then called there head office who were not intrested either so it is obvious that this company allwos there staff to comit fraud and will not take liability for it .. i would not advise nyone to deal with this company

 gizmo1981 at 3rd Aug 2009, 02:20PM
just for info, i used to work for these guys and believe me if you didnt bully poor customers they would bully you.i had a terrible time with them. i had to on occasion take out kids beds because the account was unpaid. i would loeave the mattress and get in trouble for that. a little known fact is that they write off an account after 90 days. they still may chase it but it is taken off the stores dues as they are called.
they have what is known as
1 to 7 day debt, this will be chased with letters and phone calls and a house visit if it is a big account
8 to 14 day debt, more calls and letters and definite house call.
15 to 45 day debt, serious stuff now, lots of visits to the house. any means to repo
46 to 90 day debt, this is known as back end debt. they have what is known as a percentage A/R actual revenue which this category represents to them and this kills the figures for the store until it drops off as they say at 90 days.
stores must operate at less than 5.9% pound note debt based on the weekly revenue of the store.
not forgetting you need to give 5 references to obtain credit, friends and family.they will be rang also and asked to contact the customer or leave a message so everyone will know you owe them money.
hope this helps
