My late Nan banked with the Abbey for forty years. When she died a few months ago, my Granddad took their joint paying in book to the Salford branch and explained the situation to the clerk. He'd gone in to take my Nan's details off the joint account.
The clerk took the paying in book from a recently bereaved old man, scribbled his late wife of 50 years' name out, and handed it back to him.
Funnily enough my parents were fuming and asked to speak to the bank manager. His words:
"It's [my granddad's] fault, he should've asked for a new paying in book."
What?
We've complained to head office. Six weeks later, and we still haven't heard back.
