Follow up to my last post. I have had a reply from Wescot in response to my complaint. Again, it was courteous and polite. According to Wescot, Abbey would not clarify why they were chasing me, so they have stopped chasing me.
Now that leaves me to deal with Abbey but that is a matter for another post, at another time.
I am currently dealing with this company. I received a letter from them, demanding I pay up £441.00, a debt 'ABBEY' wanted them to collect on their behalf.
1. I don't have an account with Abbey National, nor do I have a credit card with them. I will not give away any personal details but it has been a long, long time, (more than six years), since I had any dealings with Abbey, and I am quite sure I do not owe them any money.
2. I live in Scotland. I am very interested in the advice given on this website, but I am not sure if it is enforceable in Scotland.
3. To be fair, I have been in touch with them by phone and by letter. The people I spoke to were courteous and polite, and the letter they sent back, with a very nice pamphlet setting out their disputes procedure, was equally pleasant. However they also sent a final notice, which got to me long after the two weeks notice they said they had given, and they have now added a 'legal fee' to the original charge.
4. I also got onto Abbey National, and it is they that are being most obtuse. They advised me to send them the details of Wescot's allegations, (done), and gave me some contact details. I duly sent these details off, and as yet have not received any acknowledgement.
5. I asked Wescot what the bill was for, (I did not know if it was a credit card or a building society account arrears), and they said they did not know.
This should be interesting.
