If anyone wants some advice about this outfit..dont go near them. I signed up and payed nearly three thousand pounds for an electrical course, I then fell ill before I started the course and wrote a letter and sent along with a letter from my GP explaining all this. Olci will not refund one penny....stay away from them and search other blogs saying much the same thing. I will be taking legal action against them.
I've just finished my 6129 Technical Certificate with OLCI and I'm very glad I went to OLCI cos i couldnt decide who would be best at first. Very happy with the place. Now doing bits and pieces of work for my NVQ 2.
Good trainers, facilities and what i've realised now i know a bit more is that they do actually give the proper quals. Lots of sharks out there but OLCI are the real thing.
I've almost finished that electrical course and got those free courses thrown in at the start too, haven't had any problems. Have you called the customer service? If you have probs ask to speak to the manager.
Hi Has anyone had problems with the promised courses not being delivered?
I'm booked onto the Electricians course and half way through but I'm finding out that what the salesperson said and what they have me down for is not the same.
I asked for Part P and 17th Addition and was told they'd include them (give them for free)as part of the package. Now it seems that Part P isn't Im fairly intellligent and signed up with my eyes open but depending on which "Student Advisor" who picks up your call depends on what your told! Books that are "Promised are still out of stock and I've nearly finished the part that I needed them for!!! Am I the only one?
My experiences with this company have been good overall, but it’s a shame gmcregor didn’t have as successful a time. When I signed up I spoke to a guy there over the phone a couple of times and it was all really positive, just going thorugh what I wanted to do. I’d always wanted to have my own business so I didn’t have to work for someone else so we started from there. I had no experience when I started, just the odd attempt at really basic stuff at home! But I took to the course well enough, and at all the practicals the tutors were really helpful. I struggled with one of the early written exams, and had to resit. I did have to pay for it but the bloke I signed up with had told me that was how it worked so that was alright. After that I bucked my ideas up a bit and started putting a lot more effort in to my revision before the exams! The tutors were helpful as well and pointed me in the right direction after I’d failed. As for what you say about tutors helping in the exams I never saw anything like that, and I don’t how that would even work – in all my exams there was an outside person monitoring the exams so I don’t see how they’d pull that off! I’m doing my plumbing NVQ with OLCI now while I’m on site, all is going well. Once I’ve got a bit more experience I’ll start thinking about starting my own company. I can’t recommend OCI higly enough, it was all well organised, friendly people, and good support from everyone along the way. gmcgregor - Maybe you should try contacting a manager there or something, Im sure they’d be able to sort it all out for you.
Hi All, I have been searching for reports on OLCI before signing up to the 8 week Intense plumbing course. I have researched so many companies and found OLCI Islington to be the better and it is close to home. Thanks for the positive and detailed feedback here, it has helped in my decision in signing up.
I can’t believe what I’m readin from JR74, are you sure your talking about the right place mate? Been training with them for the last year and not got a bad word to say about em. I got a 1000 page course from them, and it was great. well written, easy to understand and set me up really well for the practicals. I’ve heard about a few other companys who just send you off to get book from somewhere else or worse, some make you buy some book from them for twice what its worth! The phone tutor was a good bloke as well, nevr any trouble getting hold of him and he knew what he was talking about. I was told all about him when I signed up for the course so not sure how you ended up in the dark about it.
Practical session were sound as well. Never had any that finished early, the tutor was normally there late helping an answerin peoples questions if anything! Had plenty of quality tools for everyone, and the setup was all brand newso we covered everything an more. No problems booking them either – not sure why they’d book you on an exam then not tell you, wouldn’t that end up costing them money not you?!
Not sure what you mean about the job service either. The guy that came to see me seid they’d try and help me find something but it wasnt definite and there were no garantees. Not got that far yet but heard of a couple of others further along whove got stuff through em so we’ll see. Talking of the advisor, I didn’t really find him pushy at all. I’d done my research before I started so I knew exactly what qualifications I was gonna need and what other centres were charging for them, plus id heard about OLCI already cos theres a centre just round the corner from me. Looking into what you need seems like common sense to me, you wanna know what youre getting donlt you! He didnt try an force me into anything I didnt want and was upfront about it all as well, so fine.
To be honest with you, it sounds to me like you messed up your schedules and it’s a bit of case of sour grapes, just out to cause a bit of trouble when it was your own doing!
I did training with OLCI to be a plumber – was all finished a few months back and can’t believe some of the stuff I’m reading on here! The way it all started sounds pretty similar, I was out of job an sick of what I’d been doing anyway so fancied a change. Spoke to a few other companies before I ended up with this lot, but a lot of pushy sales stuff put me of most of them. The guy from OLCI came round to my house, he knew where I was coming from and what I wanted to do. We went through all the course details and I ended up signing up for a 8 week plumbing course.
Like a few others on here I used the finance package that was available cos I didn’t have that sort of money lying around at the time! Obviously before I signed it I read all the terms so I knew what I was getting into, I have to say to Pete27 – who signs away £6k without reading the small print?! I feel for you and the situation you’ve got yourself into, if its not for you then its not for you I guess, but if you can’t get the money back wouldn’t it be better to stick it out? Anyway, the finance was great for me, I had a year to put some money aside for it (and earn some interest on that) before I had to start paying it back. Managed to get some work fitting kitchens with a mate in the mean time to earn a bit of extra cash and hopefully as a way into the industry
Got the course through within the week as I remember and got started on it. Had a few problems getting to grips with it to start with but called OLCI and got a callback from the tutor, who talked me through everything and helped me a long. I ended up talking to him a few times and never had trouble getting hold of him, quite often in the evenings as I was still working at the time. Some people on here moaning about not getting hold of people, no getting called back or whatever, but that’s not how it went for me. Eventually it came to doing the practical stuff, and I was pretty nervous before I got started, didn’t have much experience so didn’t know what to expect. I t was fine though, tutors knew what they were talking about and you could see they were used teaching people who were starting with no idea and getting them going. Centre was nice , looked like it had just been done up, shiny new tools etc. Improved a lot quicker than I expected and really enjoyed it. Had a good laugh with the other lads on the course and still in contact with a few of them. It came to the assessments later on in the course, and that went alright. Bit tricky some of them but the tutors at the practical sessions would always help out if I was struggling.
Once I was all done, got my certificates for the 6129 a few weeks later and then starting out trying to get my NVQ. Needed on-site experience for that but a plumber I met doing the kitchen fitting took me on part time so I could get the experience I needed which was handy. A few of the other blokes I was wih on the course used OLCI to find a job placement, and don’t think they had any trouble. Got my NVQ within a few months and was kept on with the plumber I was with. Still part time so I fill the rest of the day doing odd plumbing jobs locally. All going well though and so glad I did it all. Never had any problems with OLCI, all well organised at the centre I went to and answered all my questions fairly quickly. Would definitely recommend!
Did a full course to be an electrician with this lot at their place in Bristol. Everything went fine, tutors were friendly and knew their stuff. Had a couple of minor problems but the admin staff sorted it all out alright. Things didt go so well for this ajuk guy I guess. I knew what I was buying at the time I signed up for the course and I got what I paid for so no problems!
