I have mixed views about First ScotRail... I travel between Aberdeen and Edinburgh frequently by rail. If I travel on ScotRail, from Aberdeen, I generally get a seat (better reserved). That said, 40% of the time the reservation system has failed in some way and there are no cards in the backs of the seats. This isn't generally a problem from Aberdeen, as this is where the train starts from. But coming back from Edinburgh or anywhere in between is a problem... The trains are generally too short - in many case a mere three carriages (three carriage DMUs) so standing is frequent. Even when they do put six carriages on, this tends to be at busy times and then too, there is standing room only. On the bright side, the trains are generally fairly modern and reasonably clean, quite and comfortable. The staff are polite, if a tad glum and the catering is a trolley service that operates throughout the train, assuming the train is not too crowded to do so. If it is crowded the trolley is abandoned! So ScotRail, what we want is longer trains 4 and 8 carriages and happier staff, then things shall be just clickerty clack or is it Ticket e boo, Doh...
