Pdq Cars & Taxis Colchester  In August 2007 we booked a cab with this company from Stanway Rovers football club at 12am. My wife was 5 months pregnant at the time.

At 12:30, the cab had not arrived so I called them to find out where it was. I was informed that they had "forgotten to send it". I reminded them that I had booked the car 7 days before and that my wife was pregnant. I was told there was nothing they could do and that we would have to book a cab with someone else. It was now 1am on a Sunday morning. We tried to book with another company and were told to wait 2 hours for it to arrive. PDQ weren't bothered and left us to walk home - that took over an hour and a half.

Today, I thought I would try them again and called for a cab from Colchester to Tiptree. The guy on the phone seemed totally disinterested. He told me that "I can't do it right now - it will be up to half an hour". I agreed that this was OK and put down the phone. My wife then says "lets get the bus instead" so I called straight back and cancelled it - to only be met with a lot of abuse from the phone operative who called me a pri*ck for no reason whatsoever. I tried to explain that he wasn't prepared to give me a time and he just hung up.

My advice - there are lots of cab companies in Colchester so take your pick - but don't pick PDQ. They could leave you stranded anywhere and don't care if they make a mistake. Go for one of the more established companies like Five Sevens or Five Fours.

PDQ are rude, unprofessional and hopefully will be out of business soon. I feel sorry for the cab drivers who have to work for them. No wonder some of them are strugling to make a living.

Southern Electric  Highly recommended - I have use them for 2.5 years now- the cheapest and their customer support is always so helpful.

Excellent company.

Sky Broadband  The bad feature a lot on this site, but so should the good.

My Sky broadband is awesome - nice and fast and the tech support are brilliant. I have the SKy Talk package which has reduced my phone bill by massis. I'm chuffed to bits with Sky - they're one of the few large corps in the UK that actually have got it right (in my opinion!).

Tiscali  To get your MAC code, theaten them with the ombudsmen, Ofcom. It worked for me. Letter here I wrote to them today, now that they have released me to Sky after a fight:

Dear Sirs,

RE: Broadband number 012## ######

I understand from your recent email that I was supposed to have advised you when I migrated broadband supplier. This migration occurred on 28th August 2007. Since then, you have continued to charge me for your services even though you are not actually supplying me with a service.

I would point out that at no point was I told by a member of your customer service department that it would be necessary for me to advise you that my new supplier had taken over control of my broadband service. Nevertheless, this is archetypal of the customer service that I have come to expect from Tiscali and am ever so pleased that I no longer have to deal with you, at least, not for much longer. Interestingly, you are an Internet Service Provider yet insist on me writing to you via post to resolve this matter!

Please refund the monies owed to me by your organisation within the next 21 days to prevent any further proceedings being issued against you for recovery of my losses.

I trust that this matter will have your utmost attention. Please note my email address which is the quickest way to contact me.

Could I also respectfully suggest that if you are to insist on leaving callers on hold for such long period of times just to speak to customer advisor, that you make the number free phone or increase the number of call handlers that you employ.

 RitchieHicks at 2nd Nov 2007, 07:28PM
Police  New one for the police.

You get hit in the rear by another driver and the police arrive. They take details of the third party who hit you, and send you on your way. When you want to make a claim, you call the police and they will try and charge you £75 to release the information to you.

DON'T FALL FOR THIS! Just call them and say "Under Section 154 of the Road Traffic Act I am entitled to know the details of the third party insurer, or the name and address of the driver, so that I can make a civil claim against them". The police will then give you the required details - this is your right!

I am coming accross this more and more, don't fall for it.

Tiscali  Tiscali:

Regular service issues (i.e. not connectiom)

Much slower than advertise internet speeds

Shoddy customer service

Rarely respond to emails

Low level phone support involving long holding times to an 0845 number!

Avoid.

Tesco.com  Ordered flowers for Mothers Day - never turned up on the day despite repeated promises from Tesco that they would.

They turned up 3 days later - in a real mess.

Digidash  "Adjusting a vehicles digital odometer is not illegal. It only becomes illegal if you knowingly sell the vehicle without disclosing the correct mileage."

Yes, of course. And I bet the owner of this business can say with his hand on his heart "I have never knowingly clocked a car"!?

How this is legal is beyond me.

Alliance & Leicester  I have a savings account with them and wanted to open a business account. After a long meeting with someone at the bank and waiting some 2 weeks I was finally informed that, due to my credit rating, they would not allow me to have a business account.

I have never been bankrupt, I have credit cards which I pay on time and I didn't want any credit from them - just a business account.

They were happy to take my savings and invest them for the good of their company, but when I asked for a bank account in good faith, they refused. Needless to say I felt insulted and have closed my savings account down.

Oh and by the way: Lloyds TSB gave me a business account without any problems. Boo to you A&L!

Avalon Jaguar  Called them as I needed a radio code for my recently brought Jaguar X Type (as the battery went flat and they were the supplying dealer). The demanded £39 VAT and proof of ownership and said it would take over a week to obtain as they have to apply to Jaguar for it.

So, I called my local Lookers Jaguar. The very helpful guy asked a few quetions to make sure I was the genuine owner of the car and then gave me the radio code instantly - FREE OF CHARGE!

So why did Avalon have to be so awkward and lie to me?????

 RitchieHicks at 13th Apr 2006, 01:04PM
Sky  Overall OK, but a few things to note:

1. Get the Sky dish where YOU want it - I now have a dish above my front window when I should have had it at the top of the apex of my roof, and it's a bit ugly to be frank

2. Get the installer to give you plenty of slack at BOTH ends when he plugs into your phoneline - you might want to move things around later on and make sure you have a filter if on Broadband; as the Sky needs your phoneline.

3. Be prepared to move your equipment (TV etc.) out of the way if they need to drill a hole nearby for the dish feed

4. Make sure they seal around the hole they drill correctly

Otherwise, seems OK, and seeing that after 12 months I just cancel and keep the equipment free whilst still getting the freeview channels, it seems fair to me.

Plus I get to watch repeats of Blockbusters all day...nice.

Carcraft  I've been in the trade for a long time. If you have any particular questions replating to the PURCHASE of a car (not aftersales as I would be swamped) please email me on ritchiejhicks@googlemail.com.

Please note that emails asking "what's my car worth" will be ignored.

Wescot Credit Services  I too had a bad experience of this company. "Call one of our trained debt councilors" should say "call one of our arrogant, rude and unhelpful scally a-holes".

Tesco  Online shopping : Not so great. Opt for £2.99 by one get one free scampi, end up with 2xYoungs scampi at £6.68 'cos they could't supply the requested', so £3.67 increase)

Insurance : Great until you want to claim (sales line answers instantly, claims line takes 12 minutes)

Aftersales staff : Northern, underpaid insaulting gits with no care about customers at all as computers are always "down"

Tiscali  So far, so good, although connection slower than I expected.

 RitchieHicks at 25th Nov 2005, 10:25PM
O2 / BT Cellnet  Well you had the option of insurance, if you didn't take it it's your fault. Why should they give you a new, free, phones for nothing???!!

 RitchieHicks at 2nd Oct 2005, 09:27PM
O2 / BT Cellnet  Great until you have a problem, them become assholes. All I wanted to know was why my bill have gone up on average 40 quid - they insisted I owed it so I paid it. 4 months later I get a text sayin their sorry for over chaging me and will refund me for the previous mistake. Never came.

DO NOT BUY FROM THESE FOCKERS!!

Iomart Internet Ltd  And I would also state to the person with the intelligence to think I am the only person that posts on this site (John Bradley) I am not a "trouble maker", just making people know how I have been treated, which is what this site is here for...to protect people from being conned in the future. No one has to believe what I say if they don't want to, the same as no one needs to believe what you are claiming.

Orange  Have been on ALL networks at some point or another. Was with Orange for 4 years and my God I regret leaving them. 3G are awful, my better-half is with O2 and they charge her 50p a minute to call support (which has, in general, a 60 minute wait). I LOVE ORANGE AND WHEN MY CONTRACT ENDS IN APRIL I'M BACK TO THEM. Can't wait for decent customer services.

Iomart Internet Services  And yet more people complaining about this crock of sh*t company.

 RitchieHicks at 20th Feb 2005, 09:19PM
Direct Line Insurance  The repairer gives the warranty, not Direct Line. If you have an issue with the repair go back to the repairer. Next time you have a claim on your motor insurance policy for repairs, go to YOUR choice of bodyshop. Your insurance company CANNOT make you go to their "approved" repairer. You pay the policy, you make the choice.

Carcraft  Some lessons to be noted by everyone here.

Don't let them talk you into PP. If you don't want it, don't take it. But if you don't and then do fall ill and find you are not to be insured, don't be surprised that they won't make cover your payments.

Take your tax disc off the car when you drop it in. If you drive a car away on a public road without tax you are breaking the law and should have this arranged before you collected it. You pay a dealer a premium for a service send them your insurance certificate or cover note and make them go and arrange the tax for you.

If you sign a finance agreement with payment protection on it, you will have to pay and should expect a fight to get it removed; after all, your signature confirms your agreement to purchase the product. There are generally 3 different levels of payment protection and quite often just the lower, cheaper level will suffice.

You should settle the finance yourself and certainly cancel your direct debit; then you know it is done and you won't have more money taken. In theory, it is illegal to sell a vehicle with outstanding hire purchase on it to a third party, as the finance company owns your vehicle until you have paid up in full. It's not actually your property to sell, and part-exchanging means you are selling your car to a dealer to use as capital against your future purchase.

It comes back to previous persons comments in these posts read the terms and conditions fully before you sign. m not defending this company, but I am saying that people should be much more prudent before entering into a deal and contract they may not fully understand. You can always take the terms into the CAB to have them explained to you if in doubt no one can force your hand if you really don't want to. Step back, take a deep breath, read carefully, ask if in doubt, don't be pushed into anything and don't sign until you know exactly what you are entering into. The consumer credit act is there to protect you. Understand it before you get carried away. 60 months finance with payment protection at an extortionate rate of finance is a long term commitment after all.

If you still think you are being treated unfairly, complain to:

 RitchieHicks at 17th Feb 2005, 10:30AM
Iomart Internet Services  Of course.

 RitchieHicks at 15th Feb 2005, 04:56PM
Carcraft  Well I agree, most decent companies would refund you some of the warranty as you will not be able to gain any benefit from it. But unfortunately, it appears this company is unwilling to satisfy their customer. Carcraft are one of the largest car supermarkets in the UK and this means, I'm afraid, that you are just ££££'s in their VAT book, just a number.

With regard to the GAP insurance - had this situation arisen AFTER 14/01/2005 you would most certainly have a case. However, the legislation before that date was very sketchy. You could write a firm letter to them stating that you believe the deal was not sold to you in a competent and ethical manner and that, if they do not respond with a reasonable comments and possible compensation (given the situation with the warranty as well), that will be taking the matter further. It's worth a go. Be firm but don't threaten! You have to be with this type of large franchise.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of sharks out there and it's like a Horlicks advert. How do they sleep at night??!

 RitchieHicks at 15th Feb 2005, 04:53PM
Carcraft  I'm not going to side either way here and forgive the length of this, but I am in the motor trade and some people need to know some facts:

1. Every insurance policy has a cooling off period. As of the 14th January 2005 all insurance policies are regulated by the FSA (Financial Services Authority) and have a 14 day, or 30 day cooling off period, dependant on the type of policy. HOWEVER, after this time, you are responsible. This should be stated in the terms and conditions of the policy. But Stefh, I am afraid to say, it looks like the refund for the warranty won't happen...they are not legally entitled to refund this from what you have said. However, if the warranty is underwritten by a company other than Carcrap or whatever they call themselves, you could write a nice letter to the underwriters and just hope.

2. If you were not offered "GAP", "Return to Invoice" or "Financial Shortfall" then you have a case as the salesperson(s)and/or company should act ethically and offer you this product - especially if there is a large amount of money involved. I bet they offered you payment protection didn't they! But GAP is not often sold as isn't considered a big money earner and creates a lot of paperwork in general. If you can prove you were not offered this then you certainly have a case. I know motor dealers being sued in the past for not offering this. You could threaten legal action due to their negligence, but it could be hard.

3. If you pay £13,500 for a car, get it insured PROPERLY and fully comp. You will pay if you don't and then the insurer rights it off.

4. No motor dealer can promise a car won't break down, even a new one. Even a 100K Bentley can brake down. But they are obliged to give you some sort of warranty, usually 3 months or "reasonable time" (although the law doesn't actually state how long reasonable time is).

5. If you think Car Crafts cars are overpriced don't buy from them. There are THOUSANDS of genuine, good, family run companies out there who can help you with a good deal.

6. In the nicest way possible (and please don't take offence here) if you cant afford a shiny 3 year old Focus or are blacklisted and borrow money from a "sub prime" company like "First Response" or "YES" you WILL pay through the nose. If you can't sensibly afford it, DON'T BUY IT!

7. And finally, NEVER and I mean NEVER, borrow money against your property or mortgage to fund a car. A car will lose, in general, 50-70% value in some cases in the first 3 years. That's a huge amount to suck away from the value of your house or the mortgage you have been paying. PLUS the interest on top.

Be sensible, read terms. Read the small print. DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY because you want to impress your mates or next door Jones's. You all have rights but if you don't concentrate you will exploit them and only cause yourself grief.

Hope this helps.

Jamster  Also, by sending "STOP" to most of these companies in a text will stop them. Try phoning your mobile company. Its a scam, I'm afraid you'll have to contact them. Visit this link: http://www.jamster.co.uk/

 RitchieHicks at 12th Feb 2005, 07:58PM
Jamster  Hi People. Sorry to say it, but most of these are scams. And why pay for a ringtone? All they are is midi files, just search for it and email it to your phone, as if it can play polyphonic (or midi files) its more than likely got WAP access and email, most of which is FREE. Just keep away from any of them, for your own good.

 RitchieHicks at 12th Feb 2005, 07:54PM
Dabs.com  Yep, dabs.com are superb, and their goods are cheap compared to other and have always arrived as promised. I have used them loads of times. All I can say to the guy below is learn how to us the website properly, and that you can't blame a supplier because the manufactured goods were faulty - that's what happens with mass production. Is it a car dealers fault if a tyre made by Dunlop is faulty and blows out? Nope.

 RitchieHicks at 12th Feb 2005, 07:46PM
Iomart Internet Services  The thing is, "Sir Geldof", if you read my posts PROPERLY you will notice that I didn't take out any package with Iomart, I took out a package with a company called Internetters who were brought out by Iomart. All I wanted was hosting with Frontpage extensions, 30 popmail accounts and for it all to WORK>>>>nothing more. I can deal with the SEO and site design myself. However, what I ended up with was a two-bit good for nothing company who answer their sales lines in seconds but yet keep you on hold for decades if you want anything else, who's spam and antivirus protection worked when it felt like it and who kept on downing my site because they felt the compulsive need to change webservers every bloody day. Good business practice some would suggest - NOT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS.

P.S. Welcome to the Iomart employees and directors who have suddenyl appeared on this forum!!

Iomart Internet Services  You're the lucky ones!!!

I was with a company called Internetters Ltd for years who were top class. Then, suddenyl one day I found the support page linked to Iomart. Called up and sure enough Iomart had brought Intenetters out, we didn't know a thing.

Iomart are awful. Their customer service is diabolicle, they are unhelpful and the service is probably not even 90% uptime.

DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE BLAGGERS!!!
